ETX8r adjustment

Hi, i bought the ETX 8r and love it, however ive decided to make some adjustments to it, i am going to weld a T-BAR between the arms (similar to the fusion), to give it both a fixed grip position and the arm exersizers, my question is, can you advise me as to how to get the section apart where the uprights pivot as i need to remove the nylon bushes so they dont melt during welding, cheers John.
