Assembly issues and tire problems

Unpacked and assembled. Noticed that all the plasitc pieces where cable goes into the body were loose. Additionally at two locations the cable sheath is torn. Cables still function. Last, the right front tire will not hold pressure. Have used only three times with same tire issue.

Thanks.

  • The plastic cable guides are left loose when packing so the cables can be more easily moved through the tubes for proper fit, such as strider pole height adjustment, during assembly. Once the cables are fitted then the guides are inserted into holes to prevent further movement. The inner edge of the aluminum frame holes can scuff or tear the outer plastic layer of the cable housing but the steel inner layer will protect the cable inside. Can you remove the front tire tube and check for a leak while holding it under water to find out if leak is due to a loose valve or puncture?
    Thanks

Slow leak (small bubble every few seconds) a few inches from the valve stem. No visible puncture.

  • We can send a replacement tube as soon as our order comes in, expected in a couple of days. Here in CA we often see customers with tiny leaks like this caused by a grass seed head called a goat head, that will leave a tiny thorn in the tread, and puncture the tube. Is the hole in your tube near the valve stem located on the outer surface of the tube? If so, you should check the inner surface of the tire, under the tread, to make sure that there is not a remaining thorn to puncture the new tube. I have also used a tube patch kit to repair such small holes rather easily.

Slow leak is on the underside and appears to be a the intersection of "seams" or features that are not the smooth part of the tube. No debris or otherwise found in the tire.

Hi Keith, IMHO take a gander @ Dr Kraus alignment video, i switched out the front tires 2 Schwalbe marathons (VERY BEEFY), get 2 new tubes take em 2 your bike shop & have them put 1/2 bottle of slime n each , I've used slime myself, believe me if the process goes south it could wind up a huge mess.
U might even consider having slime put in the rear tire also, and slime and carry front &back replacement tubes on the Strider n case of the F word, ok its FLAT.
I have found that tires lose air and should b checked weekly, I find that the molecular seepage s slower bc of the inner slime coating.
    • What is this slime and what exactly does it do?
    • slime s a liquid that usually comes pre installed on most standard bike tubes 700c, 26in etc, it s used as a deterrent against again small thorns, staples or just about anything u run over thats sharp, what happens s the slime s aqueous n the tube & when a puncture occurs as the air starts 2 evacuate so does the slime & coats the puncture, I have used it 4 years , not only does it help w pucture deterrent but also helps keep air 4m seeping out of your tubes as butyl s inherently porous @ a tiny level.
Since the Strider tire size s not typical, u can still have your bike shop put it in, buy a bottle & have tm put n 1/2 n each front tube, they remove the valve core 2 do ts, but can get messy so have them do it. I emphasize flat deterrent (not flat proof) as if u run over something like a broken bottle that slices the tire& tube, slime will still help n a limited way, instead of air gushing out all @ once hopefully it will leave slow enuf 2 get u home, n this case if u compromised the tire as well u should buy new 1nz. Ts has been mike experience, works well on thorns, staples, etc, also put some n the rear.
The only way 2 b flat proof s 2 buy solid ties (amerityre makes them) i have used them but i find they dramatically increase rolling resistance and do not "flex" over bumps, so your spokes & rims can take a real beating, i have had several rims crack bc of this.

  • I'm testing some tire liners and they do a good job preventing the little thorns from puncturing and I can move them to the next tire when the first wears out.
